Jin was thinking this is going to be the worst day of his life.  And it’s already starting as he watched Kame meet Yani halfway and stopped to talk to her for a few minutes before Kame and now with Yani following close behind headed back to where Jin was standing.

“Jin this is Yani my date” Kame introduce with a wide smile on his face “Yani this is Akanishi my best friend”

“Hajimemashite Akanishi-sempai” Yani greeted the still silent and disgruntled looking Jin

Jin just nods his head slightly, barely acknowledging the other girl. He knows that he is acting really rude when he barely looked at Kame’s date but he can’t help himself.  How was one supposed to react when the person you love is on a date and furthermore you are there to witness it all.

Kame upon seeing this frowned a little and poked Jin’s cheeks “Don’t mind this fellow here” and he continued poking Jin “He is in one of his moods”.

“I am not” Jin answered back

“Yes you are” he insisted

“Am not” he denied

“Yes you are” and immediately covered Jin’s mouth with his hands to prevent the other boy in giving another retort.

Jin without thinking suddenly kissed the hand covering his mouth

“Ehhh” Kame reacted shocked by Jin’s action and he hurriedly retracted his hand back. 

Kame was shocked when Jin, his best friend kissed his hand but what shocked him more was the tingling sensation that spread to his body and settled in his heart.  He can still feel the imprint of that kiss in his hand.

“No I am not” Jin said after his mouth was freed

Yani upon seeing the usual bickering and playfulness between the two smiled and felt at ease.  She was really nervous about this date.  She can’t believe that two of the most popular boys in their school are standing right in front of her, one her official date and the other in her opinion unwillingly been dragged along. 

Kamenashi sempai called her a day before their date and told her that he would be bringing along his best friend explaining he doesn’t want Jin to feel left out and be lonely.  She said she understand it very well because in school she would always see the two together and several times either Jin or Kame waiting at the practice field or at the gate for the other one to finish their club activities.

“Shall we go?” Kame asked Yani

“Hai” Yani answered

Here it goes Jin said to himself.

The two went ahead and walked side by side and Jin walking behind them.  Kame’s wearing the clothes they have chosen for this day, he really looked good and Jin knows that every girl could easily fall in love with his Kazu.

The two are having small talk and Jin was not giving any contribution to the conversation, verbally that is.

“Sempai I have seen you play baseball and you’re really good”

“Thank you, I love playing baseball”

“He started playing baseball since he was 10 and they have won a lot of championship for our school” Jin added the information but only in his mind.

“Sempai what do you do in your spare time” she inquired

“Well I love hanging out with friends” Kame said

“Meaning he loves staying in my house and just be with me and if I have it my way we won’t he here talking to you” Jin again thought.

“Where do you want to go” Kame asked

“There’s a new amusement park I wanted to check out and the roller coaster is really popular”

“Bad choice, because my Kazuya is afraid to ride that one and his shrieks would be much more louder and girlier than yours” 

“Ohm ok, that’s what I also heard from friends” Kame hesitantly agreed.

The conversation still continued and when Kame looked back he noticed that Jin is falling behind.  He excused himself from Yani and went back for Jin.

“Hey hurry up, let’s go” Kame grabbed Jin’s hand with his and pulled the other boy along. 

When they have reached Yani Kame didn’t let go of Jin’s hand and continued to hold it.  Now the three of them walking side by side and the two best friends holding each other’s hand.

Jin looked down at their joined hands and interlaced their fingers, he can feel a smile tugging on his lips.  Jin squeezed Kame’s hand and Kame squeezed back while still talking to his date and Jin can feel that he is now sporting an idiotic grin on his face.

Kame looked at Jin and to their joined hands and tiptoed a little to whisper in Jin’s ears

“I miss seeing that baka smile of yours” also grinning to the other boy and he gently brushed aside some strand of hair that covered Jin’s eyes

Jin felt happy inside and he is imagining that it was his and Kame’s first date and not that girl, since he met her earlier, he haven’t mention her name yet because in his mind saying Kame and Yani would seem like they are already an official couple. 

The three of them enjoyed themselves with most of the rides and finally they queued to Kame’s most dreaded ride, the roller coaster.

“Ano, excuse me I’ll just go to the toilet” Yani excused

“Go ahead it’s not yet our turn, well just wait for you here” Kame replied

When Yani was out of hearing Jin suddenly turned to Kame who had been busy playing with Jin’s right hand, gently pinching the tips of his fingernails

“Are you sure you want to ride that” He asked and pointed at the roller coaster using his available hand

“Maybe it would be different from before” he barely looked up still engrossed in playing with Jin’s soft hands

“You almost passed out of fright the last time you rode that thing” Jin still concerned for Kame

“But Jin she wants to ride that thing” and he stopped what he was doing

“You could always say no”

“It would look bad if I say no and I want to make an impression on our first date”

“You don’t have to make an impression” Jin argued with Kame getting irritated

“I need to” Kame stubbornly insisted

“Yes passing out would be an impression” sarcasm lace Jin’s voice

Jin seeing the stubborn look in Kame’s face continued to frown and gave up.

“Are you angry?” Kame asked

“No” but his expression darkening by the minute

“but…”

“Whatever” then Jin walked away

“Where are you going Jin?” Kame shouted at Jin’s back as the one continued to walk away.

Kame knew that he had made Jin angry and he felt bad about it, he knew that his best friend was just concerned for him.  Yani returned from her trip to the loo and after 15 more minutes waiting in line it was already their turn but Jin didn’t show up.

Jin wandered to the souvenir shops not far away from the place where he left Kame and still feeling irritated with the said boy.

“Stubborn and stupid turtle trying to impress a girl” he grumbled to himself but he also feel sad that he had lost his temper with Kame.  He looked at his watch and saw it was already 20 minutes since he left Kame.  He sighed and he saw something in one of the stalls that that caught his eye.

“This is bad” Kame thought.

He and his date got off the ride together but got separated, he is alone and feeling like crap.

Half way thru the roller coaster ride he already felt really dizzy and now as he walked a little further from the exit he thinks that he is going to pass out and his legs are weak and wobbly then he suddenly tripped on a protruding stone on the ground and started to fall

“This is going to hurt” Kame closed his eyes and braced himself for the pain

Suddenly strong arms envelop his waist “You’ll be okay, don’t worry, I am here” the voice softly whispered to his ear

Even without opening his eyes Kame knew that it was Jin and he leaned his weight in Jin’s body letting the other boy support him

“My head is spinning” and he tried looking up to Jin’s face

“Don’t move your head too much” Then he pulled the smaller boy’s head against his chest

“Are you okay now?” Jin asked after a few minutes

“No” he lied, he already felt better but he love being engulfed in Jin’s arms

Jin upon hearing this stroked Kame’s hair and sometimes rubbing the back of his neck, concern marring his handsome face.  They didn’t know how long they have stood like that, when suddenly a voice interrupted them

“Akanishi sempai what happened to Kamenashi sempai?” Yani asked them

Jin heaves a long sigh “He’s not feeling well” and he led Kame to a nearby bench and then stood up

“Where are you going Jin?” Kame asked while pulling the back of Jin’s shirt thinking that Jin might leave him again

“I will just get the things I have dropped while rushing to get to you”

Kame saw not far a way a bottle of water and paper bag lying on the ground and Jin picked it up and went to sit beside him.

“Here drink this” Jin ordered and handed to him the bottle of water and Kame meekly followed

After the color went back to Kame’s face he had explained to Yani his past experiences while riding a roller coaster.

“I’m so sorry Kamenashi sempai” Yani feeling bad

“No it’s ok, I should have told you”

“Maybe we should eat dinner now” Jin suggested

And the two agreed to his suggestion.

They have chosen a restaurant that serves steak and pasta and after they have given their orders the two continued to chat and Jin just sat there not joining the conversation. 

Kame noticed that Jin still have the paper bag and was curious of the content of the bag.

“Ne Jin, what’s in the bag?” he inquired

“Something” was the brief reply

Now Kame was getting really curious because usually Jin couldn’t wait to either brag the things he had bought or ask his opinion on his purchases.

When their food arrived Kame was a bit disappointed with his choice seeing that it has a lot of big and medium size pieces of tomatoes on it and Jin noticing this started picking the tomatoes with his fork and transferred it to his own plate he didn’t stopped until he had removed it all.

Jin is having pasta and steak, he cut a piece of steak and fed it to Kame and other boy just accepted it like it was the most natural thing to do and this was repeated several times.

Yani eyed the two best friends and it came to her that Akanishi sempai is in love with Kamenashi sempai.  In school she always hear that Akanishi is really protective of his best friend but after spending the evening with the two of them she noticed the loving glances Akanishi sends in Kamenashi’s direction.  She just needs to confirm if it is true she thought.

The opportunity came when Kamenashi went to the washroom

“Ano Akanishi sempai can I ask you something” she started

“Sure, ok, what it is?” He had no choice but to talk to her

“I hope you won’t get angry”

“Ohm go ahead”

“Are you in love with Kamenashi sempai?” she blurted

“Yes” Jin answered without hesitating since it’s the truth

“Yappari, does he know?

“No, he has no idea”

“Are you planning to tell him?”

“When I think he is ready”

“And when is that?”

“I really don’t know” and Jin asked “Do you like Kame” he was dreading her answer because once she admits she has deeper feelings for Kame then there’s nothing stopping them in becoming a couple since Kame is saying he likes her.

“Yes I like him but I barely know him unlike you do, maybe I just really admire Kamenashi sempai because of his qualities or this maybe something more” Yani honestly confessed to Jin

“I want Kame to be happy and if being with you makes him happy then I won’t get in the way”

“I will think about it” then she blushed after saying that.

“Thank you Yani” he said her name for the first time.

Then Kame returned and they have paid their bill.  They made a detour on a nearby park and strolled around and Yani told Kame that she already needs to go home. Jin hearing this left the two and waited in the fountain.

As the two walk Kame noticed that Yani was deep in thought

“Kamenashi sempai thank you, I have enjoyed the evening”

“I’m glad, can I see you again?” he asked

“Gomen sempai! But I am not the right person for you” she had made her decision after she talked to Akanishi  because she knows that she can’t surpass the love Jin have for Kame.

“Sempai there is someone out there who loves you very much that you are not just aware of, please look deep inside your heart” she added secretly hoping that the two would become a couple

“Ohm, Okay” surprisingly he didn’t feel bad being dump by the girl he thought he likes

“Good night sempai”

“Good night and see you in school” and he waived goodbye to Yani

He was really surprised for the lack of hurt when Yani told him that she doesn’t have special feelings for him, as if his heart knows that she is not the person who will be in it.

Kame headed back to where Jin is and along the way he keep on thinking what Yani had just told him that there’s someone who loves him and he had been racking his brain asking himself who that person might be.

He saw Jin waiting by the fountain and his face illuminated by it’s lighting and his heart thudded really fast and loud to his own ears, he was rooted on the spot and kept on looking at Jin

Jin sensing Kame’s presence turned and looked at Kame and their eyes met…

A / N:  I’ve finished this chapter about two days ago and keep editing some scenes, I hope this is not too boring compared to the flashback….
